The Lampang Government Joins Hands with the Confucius Classroom to Promote Chinese Language

On the afternoon of Dec. 9, 2010, Dr. Nimit Jiwasantikarn, mayor of Lampang, met with director of the Confucius Classroom at Lampang Kanlayanee School in the Municipal General Office of Lampang to discuss plans over the promotion of Chinese in local areas in 2011.

On behalf of the municipal government, Dr. Nimit Jiwasantikarn gave a warm greeting to the Confucius Classroom and stated that Lampang has a large number of Chinese descendants, generating a big market of Chinese language teaching, and that the popularization of Chinese in local areas would greatly promote economic and trade ties between Lampang and China. Doc. Nimit Jiwasantikarn also expressed his wish that, based on the improvement of the Chinese proficiency of Lampang residents, the Confucius Classroom organize various kinds of Chinese-related activities to allow the locals to know more about China and its culture.

Ji Yu, the Chinese director of the Confucius Classroom at Lampang Kanlayanee School, first expressed his thanks to the Lampang Government for its consistent support of the Confucius Classroom and his commitment that rich and advanced teaching resources provided by Hanban would be taken advantage of to help inspire people’s interest in Chinese learning in Lampang. Besides, Ji Yu promised his participation in and assistance to the large-scale exhibition to be held from the 24th of this month to Jan. 2, 2011 and that great efforts would be made to make the exhibition of Chinese culture a shining pearl during local activities.

Ever since its founding in March 2009, the Confucius Classroom at Lampang Kanlayanee School has for many times joined hands with the Lampang Government, the Section 35 Bureau of Middle School Education of the Basis Committee of the Ministry of Education of Thailand and the No.1 Education Bureau of Lampang to organize activities such as exhibitions of Chinese cultures and Chinese textbooks, Chinese culture camps and the photo exhibition in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. All these efforts made by the Confucius Classroom at Lampang Kanlayanee School comply with its objective of “take root in Lampang and serve north Thailand”.
