The Confucius Institute at Miami Dade College Hosts an Experience Exchange Conference of Confucius Institutes from Southern U.S. to Great Success

On November 13th and 14th, 2010, an experience exchange conference for Confucius Institutes from the southern U.S. was held in Miami to great success. The conference was sponsored by the Educational Office of the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston and hosted by the Confucius Institute at Miami Dade College. Representatives of Confucius Institutes from 11 colleges and universities, including the University of South Florida, University of Texas, Troy University, Georgia State University, University of Texas at San Antonio, University of Central Arkansas , Texas A&M University, Emory University, University of Oklahoma, Kennesaw State University, Miami Dade College, were in attendance at the conference. Chinese and American Directors gathered together in discussion of Confucius Institutes' sustainable development. Ms. Jane Ann Williams, Director-General of International Affairs Office of Dade College, and Tang Jun and Zhou Haibo, two consuls from the Educational Office of the Consulate-General in Houston, were also in attendance at the conference.

Dr.Yan Guohua, Educational Counselor of the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston, presided over the conference and gave the opening speech. Dr.Pamela Menkee, First Associate Dean of Miami Dade College extended gracious welcomes to Chinese and American Directors of Confucius Institutes from the southern U.S.at the opening ceremony. Delegates spoke enthusiastically and were locked in animated discussion of issues regarding the promotion of the development of Confucius Classrooms for teaching Chinese in primary and secondary schools, Confucius Institute financial management , schooling features, sustainable development, local teaching resource training and resource sharing. Counselor Yan then offered concise comments on each and every representative speech.
