Chinese Primer Wen Jiabao Presents Awards to Russian Representatives from Energy and Cultural Circles

Moscow, Nov. 24th – Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao presented awards for ‘Outstanding Contributions to Sino-Russian Energy Cooperation’ and awards for ‘Contributions to Chinese Language and Culture’ to Russian representatives in recognition of their outstanding contributions.

Premier Wen said the construction of the Sino-Russian crude oil pipeline is a brave political decision made by the leaders of the two countries from the perspectives of ensuring the development of long-term bilateral relations and of the two countries, setting a good model for mutually beneficial Sino-Russian strategic collaboration. He stressed that the long-term stable, secure, and reliable energy strategic partnership meets the common interests of both countries. One month later, the Sino-Russian crude oil pipeline will officially begin to supply oil. The opening and operation of the pipeline is of great significance to the economic development, strategic security, livelihood and well-being of the two countries, he added. Premier Wen expressed the hope that the oil workers of the two countries are making persistent efforts in close coordination with relevant parties to ensure the timely, secure and efficient operation of the pipeline ensuring it as an important link connecting the political, economic and security interests of the two countries and a bridge of friendship and cooperation which will enable China-Russia energy cooperation to achieve new results.

Language is a bridge linking the hearts of the people, Premier Wen said. He pointed out that those who teach the Chinese and Russian languages and cultures play an important role in increasing mutual understanding and friendship between the two people and have made positive contributions to the long-term, healthy and stable development of bilateral relations. The Chinese government will strengthen its efforts to support and expand the exchanges between universities, research institutions and youth and push cultural and people-to-people exchanges and cooperation to achieve more results, he said.

Vice Premier Wang Qishan, State Councilor Liu Yandong, and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin also attended the award ceremony.
