On November 17, a Chinese language corner activity was hosted by the Confucius Institute at the University of Lisbon which was attended by students from the Confucius Institute and the Asian Studies faculty at the University of Lisbon. During the event, 13 overseas students from the Arts and Humanities faculty at the University of Lisbon- Portuguese major students from the School of Occidental Studies at the Tianjin Foreign Studies University- volunteered to participate in interactive activities for people with enthusiasm for Chinese language.

The event , with the theme,, ' Read Chinese Maps , Learn Chinese language ', aimed to bring a more complete understanding of Chinese to friends in Portugal and stimulate their interest for Chinese language learning through reading Chinese maps. The event commenced with Prof.Chuo Jingzhong, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute outlining the shape of China's territory, introducing its characteristics including features of the big family of Chinese nation which is comprised of 56 ethnic groups, Capital Beijing, Ancient city Xi'an, Style of the snow-covered plateau of Tibet, colorful Yunnan and beautiful Xinjiang were also described. In addition; China, like Portugal, is a maritime nation; so there was also an introduction on the expansive oceanic areas in Chinese territory. These areas included beautiful Hainan Island, as well as the island of Taiwan and its affiliated islands. This introduction brought a clearer, more complete understanding of China's territory for those present.


Introduction

Afterwards, interactive activities, carried out between 13 students from Tianjin Foreign Studies University and friends from Portugal, lasted for an hour and a half. At the end of the activities excited Portuguese friends left with Chinese maps provided by the Confucius Institute. The Confucius Institute at the University of Lisbon has indicated that more Chinese language corner activities would be added at an appropriate time in accordance with the needs of the local friends. By doing so, the Institute hopes to enrich Chinese language learning content and further increase interest in Chinese language learning among local friends'.
