Confucius Institute at Dongseo University Hosts First Workshop for Chinese Secondary School Teachers in South Korea

Busan, November 13th—the Confucius Institute at Dongseo University successfully held its first Workshop for Chinese Secondary School Teachers in South Korea. Over 60 people including Chinese teachers from Busan, Changwon, Ulsan, Gimhae and Taego as well as the whole teaching staff from the Chinese Language Department of Dongseo University took part in the workshop. Ms. Park Dong Soon, President of Dongseo University, and Mr. Guan Huabing, Chinese Consul-General to Busan attended and addressed the event.

In their speeches, President Park Dong Soon and Consul General Guan Huabing fully affirmed the work of the institute and encouraged the participants to keep working hard to contribute to the development of Sino-Korean exchanges in culture and education and friendship between the two peoples.

At the opening ceremony, Prof. Park Sook Kyung from Dongseo University gave a lecture entitled “Chinese Teaching Methods”, presenting her teaching experiences and giving her insights into teaching objects and methods.

During the workshop in the afternoon, the attending teachers talked of their feelings and experience, focusing on topics such as “Using Multi-media to assist Chinese language teaching”, “Introducing new HSK syllabus to assist Chinese language teaching”, “Promoting Memory Efficiency through recitation”, “Writing and teaching of Chinese characters”, “Working together with teachers from China to teach Chinese language” and “Classroom Teaching Methods for Foreign Language High Schools in South Korea”. They also discussed some problems they had encountered in their teaching and had lively discussions regarding such issues.

The workshop came to a successful end in a warm atmosphere. The participants stated that the activity benefited them greatly, via exchanging teaching experiences, learning more about rules and characteristics of Chinese teaching. They also expressed their hope that the workshop would be held on an annual basis.
