Discussion at the Meeting

The Confucius Institute at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (CI-UHM) held its first Board of Directors (BOD) meeting at UHM on October 18, 2010. Co-founded by Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and UHM, CI-UHM’s BOD consists of members hailing from both universities. Attendees at the meeting from UHM include Reed Dasenbrock, vice chancellor for academic affairs, Edward Shultz, dean of School for Pacific and Asian Studies, Frederick Lau, director of Center for Chinese Studies, and Cynthia Ning, American director of CI-UHM. Attendees from BFSU include Jin Li, vice president, Sun Youzhong, assistant president, Zhang Xiaohui, director of the Office of Confucius Institutes, Liu Boran, vice director of the Department for International Exchange and Cooperation, and Li Qikeng, Chinese director of CI-UHM.

The BFSU delegation also inspected the offices of CI-UHM and listened to a briefing on CI-UHM work. The delegation has held the work of CI-UHM in high regard since its establishment and it made some suggestions regarding the smooth operation and sustainable development of CI-UHM.
