A Joint Meeting Held Between CIB and CIV

Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, and Vienna, capital of Austria are separated by only 60km. This means that cooperation between the Confucius Institutes in each country is very easy.

On October 15th 2010, a group lead by Ding Shude, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute in Bratislava (CIB), along with volunteer Chinese teacher Fang Yu, and the Secretary Jana, visited the Confucius Institute in Vienna (CIV). They carried out a comprehensive meeting to share their experiences in regards to Chinese teaching with their colleagues in CIV.

The meeting started off at 9:30, and a total of 9 people, including the Chinese Directors, teachers, and secretaries of both Institutes attended.

First, Ms Wang Jing, the Chinese Director of CIV, delivered a welcome speech to her colleagues in CIB, and introduced recent developments and changes that took place in CIV. Then, Mr Ding Shude, the Chinese Director of CIB, gave a speech introducing the cultural activities of CIB. All of the participants engaged in a lively discussion about the various cultural activities that took place, and shared their working experiences with one another. They all stated that they would be interested in further developing Chinese courses in local primary and middle schools. There was also discussion over how to increase the influence of Chinese culture, and how to continue with courses for university students. At the end of the meeting, they shared their experience in regard to internet presence, and the design of Chinese courses.

The meeting lasted two and a half hours in total, and finished at 12.00 am. All the participants stated that they thought this meeting provided them with a good opportunity to exchange stories about their working experiences, and problem solving. All involved benefited greatly from the meeting, and the topics were relevant, particularly concerning the future development of the Confucius Institutes.
