Thai Confucius Classroom at Suankularb Wittayalai School Hosts Thai Culture Experience Camp for Volunteer Chinese Teachers

The First Thai Culture Experience Camp for Volunteer Chinese Teachers reached its conclusion on August 22nd. The camp was hosted by the Confucius Classroom at Suankularb Wittayalai School, 30 volunteer Chinese teachers from over 20 schools around Bangkok attended the camp to enjoy Thailand’s scenic countryside, learn to cook Thai food and learn Thai style dance. Ms. Wu Taiwan, Officer of Chinese Program of the National Commission of Elementary Education of Thailand and the President of Suankularb Wittayalai School also attended the camp.
During the three day activity, participants were busy and happy to learn to cook Thai food, they were involved in every step: picking vegetables, peeling, washing, cooking and frying; they helped each other out and looked excited and satisfied when the food is ready: sour and spicy shrimp soup, cold papaya with sauce, Thai style fried shrimp flat cake, banana dumplings and coconut and bean cake, there was applause for the participants newly developed cooking skills.

On the Thai traditional dance class, volunteer Chinese teachers followed the paces, gestures, facial expressions of the teacher and rehearsed diligently, teachers praised their Chinese students’ fast pace of learning.
At the end of the camp Participants also visited Samutsongkram orphanage, they played games with orphans and staged Thai style dances for kids to pass on a spirit of dedication to the lovely children. Duan Fumei, a volunteer Chinese teaching working at a middle school in Bangkok said that the camp had offered them an opportunity to make friends, learn to cook Thai food and know more about the culture and customs of Thailand.
According to organizers, the Confucius Classroom at Suankularb Wittayalai School has also launched a Chinese teaching seminar for newly appointed volunteer Chinese teachers and the seminar has also received a warm welcome.
