Thai Confucius Classroom at Chltralada School and the Confucius Classroom at Assumption Commercial School Jointly Host Volunteer Chinese Teacher Training Seminar

On August 21st, the Confucius Classroom at Chltralada School and the Confucius Classroom at Assumption Commercial School hosted the “2010 National Commission of State Education Volunteer Chinese Teacher Training Seminar”; approximately 100 volunteer Chinese teachers from around Bangkok attended the seminar with the purpose of improving teaching standards.

The Ministry of Education of Thailand and Hanban Thailand Office both give special importance to the seminar. The seminar is comprised of training programs such as: Sino-Thai Cross-Cultural Communication Skills, Demonstration on the Plan of Teaching Chinese in Thailand, Exhibition on the Teaching Fruits of Excellent Volunteer Chinese Teachers, Evaluation on the Teaching Quality of New Volunteer Chinese Teachers and FAQs about Teaching Chinese in Thailand.

The seminar began with a speech from Lai Zhihua, Chinese Program Officer of the National Committee of State Education of the Ministry of Education of Thailand. Lin Yongfa, a representative of the volunteer Chinese teachers showcased his teaching experience; screening video clips of his Chinese classes during the Chinese language demonstration class. His teaching methods were welcomed by his colleagues. The demonstration classes for newly appointed volunteer Chinese teachers pushed the seminar to new heights; they shared the teaching experience over the past two months and demonstrated teaching aids and patterns to their colleagues. The teaching methods in combination with play format were met with much appreciation from the other volunteer Chinese teachers.

The seminar drew to a successful conclusion and volunteers feeling that they had learnt a lot and they expect to attend further similar seminars, so as to learn from each other, stock pile experiences, make new friends and make progress together. Cai Min, a volunteer Chinese teacher said: “the seminar has offered us a learning opportunity; not only on teaching quality, but also on making friends and combating loneliness.”

The Confucius Classroom at Chltralada School and the Confucius Classroom at Assumption Commercial School will continue working together in training Chinese teachers, sharing of teaching resources and reinforcement of the ties between volunteer Chinese teachers in Thailand.
