“Dear Mum, I wish you good health and a happy life.” “Mom, you are my only love in the world.” – Students wrote cards in Chinese to express their love to their mothers. August 12th is Mother’s Day in Thailand and the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The Confucius Classroom at Lampang Kanlayanee School hosted an open day event with the theme of “Innovative Cards, Commemorating Mother’s Day”. Over 3,000 teachers, students and parents attended the event and celebrated her majesty’s birthday.

On August 10th, the Confucius Classroom asked students to write Chinese cards to express their love towards their mothers. Students made their own cards in various shapes such as heart shaped, house shaped, door shaped and the shape of the Chinese character “爱” (love) and put photos of their mothers on the cards, then drew pictures on the cards and gave the cards to their mothers as gifts. Some students also put jasmine flowers into the cards.

On August 11th, the Confucius Classroom hosted an exhibition to display the achievements of the Queen. Students were also asked to write a short article about stories with their mothers. Students said the activity had furthered their understanding of the queen’s love towards the Thai people and let them understand the greatness of mother’s love. Some students expressed the sentiment that they would study hard to repay their mothers’ love and make their mothers’ life better.

The school president said the activity offered students with a platform and taught them to be grateful and care about others. More of these activities will be launched in the future.
