The Preliminary Round for the 3rd Austrian “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students Draws to a Successful Conclusion

Vienna, June 16th PM – the Preliminary round for the 3rd Austrian “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students concluded at the Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna.

Previously, an audition had been held and a total of 8 contestants entered into the preliminary round.

The preliminary competition consisted of a free theme speech segment and a Q&A segment. During the speech segment, contestants’ scores depended on their speech content, Chinese proficiency and performance and in the Q&A segment contestants answered questions about current affairs in China, Chinese culture and basic knowledge of Chinese language.

After fierce competition, contestant Vincent Zettl won the first prize and will participate in the semi-finals and final competition along with the two winners of second prizes in October in China's Chongqing municipality.

Chen Hangzhu, Educational Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Austria, and his wife were present at the competition and granted prizes to the winners. After the competition, Prof. Chen chatted with contestants and praised their performance. He also encouraged contestants to continue studying Chinese and continue to make great achievements in their learning.
