The 3rd “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Students in China Opens
“Learn Chinese Language, Make Friends from All Over the World!” the 3rd “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Students in China was unveiled in Beijing on August 11th, the competition is cosponsored by Hanban and CCTV.
Wang Yongli, Deputy Director of Hanban and Deputy General Director of Confucius Institute Headquarters stated on the launch ceremony that previously, there have been 9 Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions or Foreign College Students, 3 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign Secondary School Students and the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese proficiency Competition for Foreign Students in China since 2002. The “Chinese Bridge” has become a major brand in Chinese language learning and cultural dissemination. Wang also cordially expressed hopes that the excellent performance of contestants will show foreign friends that it is not difficult to learn Chinese.
The “Chinese Bridge” Chinese proficiency Competition for Foreign Students in China has taken place twice already; this year’s competition will be the largest ever in terms of contestant numbers. Nearly 1,000 foreign students from 86 higher education institutes in 18 competition areas, including Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Chinese Taipei attended the preliminary competitions; 88 elite foreign students from 32 countries continued qualified for the semi-finals and final. In addition the introduction of reality TV show elements, such as the knockout and expert comment systems with an aim to test contestants’ language application ability in real life scene will break the mold of language proficiency contests and add vigor and ferocity to the competition., The semi-finals and the final will be shown on CCTV-4 from August 18th over 11 consecutive days, the final competition and awards ceremony will be broadcast live worldwide on August 28th and the winner of the champion will be crowned “Chinese Language Star” by Hanban and CCTV.
The “Chinese Bridge” Chinese proficiency Competition for Foreign Students in China has been held to the backdrop of global “Chinese Fever” so as to promote Chinese language and culture. It aims to provide foreign students in China with a platform for communication and sharing of experiences of Chinese learning and help foreigners to use appropriate methods for learning Chinese as well as boosting their confidence in Chinese learning and furthering their understanding of China.
It is believed that there are currently 140,000 foreign students in China and 40 million Chinese learners worldwide.
