Thai Education Minister visits Confucius Classroom at Phuket School

Phuket, July 9th-- The Confucius Classroom at Phuket School held the Chinese book show and culture experience activity at the newly completed Chinese Culture Experience Center on the afternoon.

Mr. Chinnaworn Boonyakiat, Minister of Education of Thailand, and a member of the House of Representatives, were present at the event. The students at the Confucius Classroom welcomed the distinguished guests with fluent Chinese.

At the event more than 100 kinds of Chinese books and audio-video products about Chinese culture as well as the Chinese culture experience equipment sponsored by the Hanban of China were exhibited. Mr. Minister visited the exhibition accompanied by the principal of Phuket School and Chinese and Thai directors of the Confucius Classroom.

With the introduction of the students, Mr. Minister learned about the world famous four ancient inventions of China, enjoyed delicious Chinese dishes and played the ancient Chinese musical instrument – Zheng (Chinese zither).

Chen Zhen, Chinese director of the Confucius Classroom, said, “The Confucius Classroom at Phuket School has designed a set of Chinese culture experience curricula to suit the experience equipment. Now the center is under trial operation. It will be open to the primary and high schools in Phuket after the official opening at the end of the month.”

After the visit, Mr. Boonyakiat wrote the words of advice to the Confucius Classroom, “China develops very rapidly and it will significantly boost the Chinese language education in Thailand. Schools are the source of knowledge for children. It is a good cause to set up a Chinese Culture Experience Center here. I hope that the teachers of the Confucius Classroom at Ghuket School would work hard continuously to enable the children in the southwestern Thailand to learn more Chinese language and culture.”
