2010 Chinese Calligraphy Competition at the Confucius Institute at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand

Songkla, July 17th-- Confucius Institute at Prince of Songkla University held the Chinese Calligraphy Competition 2010 for College Students in the Southern Thailand region. More than 100 candidates from a total of 8 colleges and 15 secondary schools in the Southern Thailand took part in this competition.

Professor Xu Buqun, the calligrapher from the Shanghai University was invited to serve as the judge. The competition consists of three groups, hard pen calligraphy for college student, soft pen calligraphy for college student, and soft pen calligraphy for middle school students. Finally, after a rigorous and fair assessment, 2 first prizes, 5 second prizes, and 10 third prizes were awarded to the college students participating in hard pen calligraphy, and 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, and 5 third prizes to the college students participating soft pen calligraphy, as well as 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, and 5 third prizes to the middle school students participating in soft pen calligraphy. Coinciding with the ceremony of the Director Conference of the Confucius Institutes held at the Prince of Songkla University, the competition invited Madame Pang Li, the representative of Hanban in Thailand, and the directors from each Confucius Institute to award the prizes to the winners. Professor Xu Buqun highly appreciated the writing level of the competitors and said he was deeply impressed by the students’ enthusiasm in learning calligraphy here.
