Beijing, July 11th-107 candidates for the 9th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students hailing from 81 competition sites in 62 countries visited Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters.

A representative from the Division of New Initiatives and International Exchanges of Hanban delivered an impassioned welcome speech. Candidates then visited the China Exploratorium and the CI Window to experience Chinese culture and learn about current affairs at Confucius Institutes around the world. At the China Exploratorium, Hanban in particular showcased some Chinese traditional cultural skills to candidates, these included clay figure manufacturing, Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting. Candidates were very interested in the Chinese cultural skills and were surprised by the profound aspects of Chinese culture.

Hanban then held a brief welcoming ceremony for candidates, Wang Yongli, Deputy Director of Hanban, Deputy General Director of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Vice President of the Organizing Committee of the 9th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students made a speech, explaining basic information regarding Hanban, offering encouragement and wishing that candidates perform well in the competition. Deputy Director Wang Yongli also presented gifts to candidates on behalf of Hanban.

At noon Hanban treated candidates to dinner at Ruanjude Restaurant in Beijing's Wangfujing Street.

Candidates will be divided into two groups and leave for Changsha and Xiangxi to attend the "Chinese Family Experience" on July 11th and 12th.
