London, June 10th – A roundtable meeting entitled “China’s Economy & the Current International Situation” was held in the Confucius Institute for Business London (LSE). Prof. Lv Fengding, former Chinese Ambassador to Sweden served as a lecturer and Mr. Nick Byrne, the Confucius Institute’s British Director chaired the meeting.

Prior to the meeting, Prof. Lv paid a visit to the LSE and discussed the development of the Confucius Institute with Prof. Huang Guoying, the Chinese Director of the LSE and Dr. Lu Hong, Academic & Administrative Director of the LSE. Lv also highly praised the LSE’s status in relation to its bearing upon overseas Chinese education and cultural promotion.

The meeting that began at 6 pm attracted the participation of various commercial and academic organizations including the Ernst & Young LLP, the HSBC, Warwick University and LSE. Prof. Lv’s rich experience in dealing with international affairs and comprehensive understanding of Chinese economy was of great benefit to participants. During the Q&A after the lecture, guests raised questions concerning the orientation of China’s future development and the conflict between China’s rapid economic growth and scarcity of energy resources. Prof. Lv’s remarkable responses took the meeting to a higher level. Participants were reluctant to leave the meeting room and continued inquiring upon information regarding China after the meeting had concluded.

The LSE has taken full advantage of local resources, building up a platform of exchanges for people in Britain and abroad and opening a window for friends overseas to learn about China.
