General information

The Confucius Institute at Purdue University (CIP) was officially inaugurated on May 14, 2007 and is located at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. In collaboration and supported by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Hanban,CIP joins all other Confucius Institutes worldwide to promote understanding of China by initiating and fostering Chinese language and cultural programs. It serves Purdue University, the Greater Lafayette community and the State of Indiana in the areas of business, global engineering, community outreach and K-12 education. In particular, CIP works with Krannert School of Management, College of Liberal Arts, Global Engineering Program, Center for International Business Education and Research and Lafayette School Corporation on developing and teaching Business Chinese and promotes Teach/Study in China programs of Purdue faculty, students and the Greater Lafayette community. In addition to our regular language and cultural courses, lectures, speech contests, research conferences and other related educational and cultural programs, CIP 2010 program highlights include our Shanghai World Expo program, launch of Confucius Classroom and Mayors Connect-with-China program. In the Shanghai World Expo Program, 158 Purdue students gathered in Shanghai to explore the 2010 World Expo and investigated the impact of Expo on China and the world. Our community outreach efforts resulted in the establishment of the Confucius Classroom at Lafayette School Corporation and the Mayor’s program. The Mayors Connect-with-China program started with Mayors Roundtable to introduce the Mayors on China, and to facilitate business connections. In the years ahead, CIP will continue to develop and support any China-related projects at Purdue University and surrounding communities.
