A Chinese Book Donation Ceremony Held at the Gaborone Library

Gaborone, April 30th afternoon – A book donation ceremony for the Geborone Library hosted by Chinese Embassy in Botswana and the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana was held at Gaborone Library.

Mr. Gou Haodong, Chargés d’affaires of Chinese Embassy in Botswana, Mr. Nkgowe, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Youth Sport and Culture of Botswana, Ms. K. Kgabi, Curator of Botswana National Library, Dr. Mwikisa, Acting Deputy Director of the College of Humanities of the University of Botswana and Dr. Rasebotsa, Director of the Confucius Institute, all participated in the donation ceremony.

During the donation ceremony, Chargés d’affaires Gou Haodong spoke highly of the book donation and exhibition sponsored by the Confucius Institute. He was of the opinion that this was an important way to promote the cultural exchanges between the two countries. He also stated that the Chinese Embassy would help the library to enrich its book collection in the future, enlarge the scale of book collection and promote the educational cooperation between the two countries. He also hoped the Confucius Institute continues to hold further cultural exchange activities.

Ms. Kgabi, Curator of Botswana National Library firstly thanked the Chinese Embassy and the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana for their generous donation. She said this vigorous support for Gaborone would aid the city in becoming a center for learning. She also praised the Chinese book exhibition held by the Confucius Institute and said this year is the 35th anniversary of China-Botswana having diplomatic relations and that  the cultural exchanges and cooperation have benefited both countries immeasurably. The exhibition has introduced China in the aspects of politics, economy, culture, history and society and offered an excellent opportunity for the people of Botswana to learn about China.

Dr. Mwikisa, Acting Deputy Director of the College of Humanities of the University of Botswana, stated in his speech the Confucius Institute has offered the locals a precious chance to learn Chinese and get to know Chinese culture. He also stated his hope that such exhibition will be held again in the future.
