The president of the Goethe-Institut Visits the Confucius Institute Headquarters

May, 17th, 2010 - The president of the Goethe-Institut, Prof. Dr. hc. Klaus-Dieter Lehmann led a delegation to visit the Confucius Institute Headquarters. He jointly signed the “Letter of Intent for Cooperation between the Confucius Institute Headquarters and the Goethe-Institut Headquarters” with Madame Xu Lin. Both sides agreed to carry out regular exchanges and cooperation on subjects such as teacher training, joint compilation of teaching materials and quality control of language materials.

Madame Xu Lin stated at the ceremony that the Confucius Institute Headquarters was delighted to establish close relations and engage in fruitful cooperative ventures with the Goethe-Institut.

Prof. Dr. hc. Klaus-Dieter Lehmann was invited to give a lecture at Grand Forum. He said that the Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute for the Federal Republic of Germany that was tasked with promoting the  German language and culture worldwide. The Goethe-Institut aims to promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. The Goethe-Institut promotes this knowledge inthe aspects of language, culture, information and establishing or contributing to libraries of books. Lehnmann was proud to talk about the accomplishments achieved by the Goethe-Institut in regards to their goals of language promotion. He also spoke highly of the great achievements made by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in the promotion of Chinese language and culture worldwide. He said that the Goethe-Institut has always been enthusiastic to cooperate with both domestic and outside partners. He had confidence, as a result of his visit, that the cooperation between both sides would be a great success.

Before the signing, Prof. Dr. hc. Klaus-Dieter Lehmann visited the China Exploratorium and Chinese teaching resources and cultural exhibition, which was set up on the ground floor of the Confucius Institute Headquarters building. He paid very careful attention to the abundant exhibition methods and materials, and highly praised the great achievements made by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in developing various Chinese teaching resources as well as the efforts made by worldwide Confucius Institutes.
