Plan for the 8th Chinese Bridge:Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students

Ⅸ. Arrangement

The competition is divided into preliminaries, semi-finals and finals. The first round will be held in competitors home countries, while the second round and the finals will take place in China. The airfare, accommodation and transportation expense of participants invited to China for the competition will be provided by the organizing committee. After the competition, participants will be sent back in groups by the committee.

Preliminary (from the end of March to the end of May in 2010)

Two methods are employed to choose participants for the semi-finals:

1) Selected by the educational or cultural department of a Chinese Embassy (consulate), Confucius Institute or relevant educational institution;

2) Recommended by a universitie or college that offer Chinese courses;

Participants selected on of the abovementioned methods mentioned above are asked to send their personal videos and related materials in line with the requirement of the competition to the committee. The committee will conduct a unified selection prior to June 10th in 2010 and 110-120 students will be selected for the semi-finals.

Semi-finals and finals (beginning of July to beginning of August)

The second round will be a series of examinations on students’ Chinese proficiency, Knowledge of China and Chinese cultural skills. Winners will be selected to enter the finals.

A promotional method will be used to select special prize, first prize, second prize and third prize. Prizes will be handed out for sinle events as well.

Ⅹ. Prizes and Awarding Methods

Prizes:

1 special prize, five first prizes, 6 second prizes and 18 third prizes,

10 single prizes;

10 outstanding organization prizes for excellent preliminary organizers

Prizes

Special prize: Special prize is a full scholarship to study in China from Hanban (The scholarship will be valid for a 3-year period since 2011). The winner will be awarded the title “Outstanding Chinese Language Envoy”.

First prize: First prize will get a full scholarship to study in China from Hanban (The scholarship will be valid for a 3-year period since 2011). The winner will be awarded the title “Chinese Language Envoy”.

Second prize: The Second prize winners will get a scholarship for one year of study in China in 2011 from Hanban. Their return air tickets are included free of charge.

Third prize: Third prize winners will get a scholarship for half a year of study in China in 2011 with free return air tickets from Hanban.

Single prize: Winners will get a scholarship for half a year of study in China in 2011 from Hanban or Hunan Province Education Department.

All competitors attending the semi-finals and finals will receive a souvenir certificate for their participation.

Ⅺ. Judges

The organizing committee will invite experts in language, culture and arts to be live judges in the second rounds and finals.
