Hanban’s Director-General Xu Lin Elected as a Counselor for the Chinese State Council

On Nov. 13th 2009, Xu Lin, Director-General of Hanban, General Director of the Confucius Institute Headquarters was appointed as counsellor for the Chinese State Council. Chinese Premier and Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau Wen Jiabao presented certificates to 6 new counselors; Xu Lin, Liu Pengzhi, Liu Yanhua, Zhang Kangkang, Xia Bin and Ma Li.
The Counsellor’s Office of the State Council is a government advisory body of the State Council, an academic advisory board to the government; counselors of the state council are appointed by the Premier of the State Council, they are virtuous, able and prestigious people, some of whom are Chinese non-communist political figures, personages without party affiliation and well-known specialists and scholars. Since the PRC‘s founding, there have  been 32 individuals elected as counsellors of the state council. At present, there are only 206 current and past state council members, 53 of them being existing counselors.
