The 2009 “Chinese Bridge” Non-native Chinese University Student Chinese Song Competition Concludes in British Columbia Province, Canada
In order to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the PRC, the 2009 “Chinese Bridge” Non-native Chinese University Student Chinese Song Competition was held by the Division of Education of the Chinese Embassy in Canada and the BCIT Confucius Institute in British Columbia Province at the Royal Bank Cinema on Oct. 30th.
The event involved the participation of 54 non-native university students in the competitive proceedings. Contestants hailed from more than 10 universities, such as the University of British Columbia (UBC) University, Simon Fraser University, Victoria University, Queensland University, University of the Fraser Valley , Langara College and Camosun College. Various kinds of songs were sung by the contestants, such as the popular Chinese song Chrysanthemum Platform, the classic Beautiful Grassland is My Homeland, as well as ‘revolutionary songs’ such as I Love You China and Today is Your Birthday. Contestants showed their great enthusiasm on stage, and the audience appeared to be overwhelmed by the touching melodies; the competition evolved into a big celebration!
Liang Shugen, Chinese Consul General in Vancouver, Xue Yafei, Educational Counselor, Dr. Ross King, Director of the Department of Asian Studies at UBC, Dr. Robert Chen, President of the Canadian TCSL Association, attended the competition. Liang Shugen and Ross King made speeches on behalf of the Chinese Consulate General and UBC, and they also watched the competition and presented awards to the winners.
