Chinese Teaching Enters the World

In recent years , the Chinese government has been intensifying efforts to promote Chinese language teaching and exchanges in the world. Some universities in China have started offering courses on teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. Presently there are about 50,000 students in such courses. Students of this major can also attain a master's degree in 24 universities in China. Teaching materials for overseas Chinese teaching have been constantly upgraded and improved too. Currently, 54 publishing houses publish teaching materials, with eight of them specializing in the publication of teaching materials. As for teaching methods, in the past China would invite foreigners to come to China for research and exchanges but now China would dispatch personels to teach overseas and improve the Chinese language teaching methods in accordance to the local circumstances.

The Confucius Institute has slowly taken the lead to spread Chinese language and culture in the world. By the end of 2008, there are 249 Confucius Institutes and 56 Confucius Classrooms in 78 countries so far. It has proven to be an efficient way to promote Chinese language and culture, attracting more and more foreigners learn Chinese lauguage and understand Chinese culture. At the 27th Expolangues fair, the Chinese language section, with exhibits from 10 Confucius Institutes in France, riveted the attention of a lot of visitors. These 10 Confucius Institutes, some affiliated to famous universities while others independent, are the highlights in the fair.
